Melasma sites
Melasma commonly appears on the cheeks, nose, chin, above the upper lip, and forehead. It can also appear on other places such as the arms, neck, and back, meaning that it is affected by places exposed to the sun, where the response to these areas is excessive, so symptoms often increase during the summer.
The reasons for the appearance of melasma
- Hormonal drugs to prevent pregnancy: drugs that contain estrogen and progesterone
- Anticonvulsant medications

- Hypothyroidism
- Pregnancy: due to the increase in estrogen and progesterone levels
